Breed Registration
We believe the P.R.E. must be judged and qualified by those deeply connected to its place of origin, Spain. We see no reason to “Americanize” these horses, and are committed to breed consistent with the standards of Spain. We support shows in America put on by ANCCE and by The Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse. All of our horses are at least registered in the Spanish Stud Book and may be dually registered.

P.R.E. Horses can be registered in the Spanish Stud Book (ANCCE in Spain & through the US PRE Association) or in the P.R.E. Mundial Registry (through The Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse) or both. Each provide a “carta” documenting the horse’s registration and insuring the horses' lineage and authenticity. There is also a US-based organization, I.A.L.H.A. that sponsors shows and manages its own breed registry and our horses are eligible for registration with I.A.L.H.A., too.

A P.R.E. horse must come from parents registered in the studbook. When it is a youngster, it then has to pass a physical inspection and genetic testing in order to receive its Carta. This inspection must be completed by an approved veterinarian. Genetic testing confirms parentage. Each horse must also be microchiped for permanent identification. This process is called ‘Inscription’.

When the horse reaches adulthood, (a minimum of three years old), it is examined again for minimum size, quality, transmissible faults, and breed fidelity. When it passes this approval it is said to be ‘Revised’. It is only by achieving Revision that a P.R.E. is approved for breeding or reproduction purposes.

The most rigorous and highest level of review and approval for a P.R.E. horse is ‘Qualified’ status. A Tribunal for Qualified Breeding Stock measures and assesses natural paces and specific points of conformation, x-rays to ensure there are no bone abnormalities, and checks reproductive organs (semen count, history of successful reproduction, lack of congenital anomalies, etc.) Horses are scored and, once all the data is reviewed, may then achieve the designation of ‘Qualified’.
