The beauty and character of this magnificent breed captured our hearts over a
decade ago. Then, Yeguada Marquesa was founded in 2004 as a breeding farm
dedicated to the Pure Spanish Horse. (Properly known as the Pure Spanish Horse/
Pura Raza Española/P.R.E. but often popularly called “Andalusian”.) Because
our intent is to remain relatively small, we strive to be highly selective, insisting
on quality, strong breed type, and functionality.
We are dedicated to producing P.R.E.’s with characteristic intelligence, stability,
and an orientation to nobly and willingly interact with people. For us, the
breathtaking initial impact of this breed must also be expressed in the correctness
of their structure, so that the horse in motion fully expresses the balance, power
and beauty of the P.R.E.
Our horses (mares and stallions) are trained in dressage (“Doma Clásica”) because it
develops strong,
facile muscular and skeletal systems in a way that builds from the
ground
up, avoiding exaggeration and excesses that lead to breaking down. Although this
versatile
breed is used
for pleasure riding, show jumping, cattle work, reining, carriage
driving,
and the beautiful “Doma Vaquera”, we believe
dressage supports and expresses the
P.R.E.’s natural athletic ability, and enhances the elegance
and strength that is the birthright
of every foal born at Yeguada Marquesa.
You will see a variety of colors at Yeguada Marquesa. A great example of the breed stands as an admirable accomplishment regardless of color. We do test through the University of California at Davis to establish genetic coat color as one aspect of our ongoing study of this wonderful breed.
We welcome visitors by appointment.
